Boyd Interactive, a subsidiary of Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming, has officially acquired Resort Digital, the online gambling unit of the resort casino in Atlantic City. The deal, which was completed on Sept. 1, 2024, is a strategic expansion of Boyd's iGaming portfolio, but financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
Resorts Digital, which has consistently outperformed offline resort casinos, is an important player in online gambling. In the first eight months of the year, Resorts Digital generated $573 million in sales, more than five times the $190 million that offline casinos made in the same period, according to data from the New Jersey Game Enforcement Administration.
Resorts Digital's Outstanding Performance:
Resorts Digital has maintained impressive financial success, with gross operating profit up 5.6% in the first half of 2024 to $9.6 million compared to the same period in 2023. In contrast, offline casinos posted a nearly 89% year-over-year decline in gross operating profit of $355,000. These figures reflect the growing dominance of online gambling in the region, especially in light of New Jersey's strong iGaming market.
The acquisition of Boyd Interactive includes two major online casino platforms, ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com , and also includes one unused sports betting skin, which will further expand the opportunity for Boyd to expand its sports betting presence. The acquisition will allow Boyd Interactive to tap into the vast potential of the digital gambling industry in one of the most profitable iGaming markets in the United States.
Despite the ownership change, Resort Digital will continue to operate under the resort casino's sports betting and online gambling license.
The resort casino will also maintain relationships with other online gambling partners, including DraftKings, Penn Gaming, PokerStars, and ESPNBET. According to Marc Gianantonio, president of the resort casino, the casino will build on Resort Digital's success and work closely with Boyd. "We are confident that this deal will take Resort Digital's proven success to the next level through Boyd Interactive and the size of the market-leading platform," Gianantonio said, according to a report by The Associated Press.
Boyd's iGaming Strategic Expansion:
Boyd Gaming sees the acquisition as a significant step in its broader strategy to build a profitable iGaming business that complements its existing nationwide operations. Boyd's statement highlighted that the acquisition aligns with its vision to strengthen its presence in the regional market, where online gaming has grown significantly. "New Jersey has long been one of the leading iGaming states in the United States, and we look forward to working with Resort Casino in Atlantic City to further expand our presence in the online gaming market in New Jersey," Boyd said.
The move marks Boyd's return to Atlantic City after owning a stake in Borgata Casino, which he previously sold to MGM Resorts International. Now, Boyd is positioning itself as a major player in New Jersey's online gambling environment, which has become a leader in legalized iGaming. 파워볼사이트
The partnership between Boyd Interactive and Resort Casino is more than just an acquisition. The two corporations plan to cross-promote their brands to mutually benefit from each other's customer base. ResortsCasino.com will highlight real resort casino hotels to online customers, while Resort Casino will promote digital platforms on its premises.
"This marketing relationship will benefit both companies in the long run," Gianantonio says. Boyd and Resorts aim to leverage their respective strengths to create synergies that strengthen their online and offline gambling businesses.
